More than a Competition

SYF is over for the class of 2007 and 2008.

Although many of us have very mixed feelings about how things went, there is a lot to be positive about and a lot to thank God for! What we also need is not to have any wrong impressions.

AC Strings 07/08 is a truly unique bunch of people. What has amazed me the most is the diverse back grounds we have come from. For many of us, this experience has been a first as part of a string ensemble, and God has truly blessed us with this opportunity to make music together. To have achieved what we've done so far is just another blessing He has showered on us. It is also a testament of the passion and dedication each of us has for this group. We have come a long way since the beginning of the year and this proves that we need not be playing together for five or six years to play good music. This is something we should be proud of!

We shouldn't come away from this experience with any wrong impressions; wrong impressions of what good music is and wrong impressions that we are inferior. Good music isn't playing every note correct. It isn't about well rehearsed movements on stage. And it isn't about being superior to anyone else. What's the point of being able to play every single note and to move like waves if there is no passion in what we do? Music is so much more than a competition!

There is much to be happy about! And for now we celebrate God's faithfulness and His gift of music! To God be the glory, the best is yet to be!
